Mitch Gerads Unveils Mister Miracle #12 Variant Cover Ahead of the Series’ Finale

Tom King and Mitch Gerads’ exceptionally harrowing Mister Miracle, a comic that has both breathed new life into the world of the New Gods and provided poignant commentary on the issue of mental health, is preparing to come to a close.

With Mister Miracle #12 set to hit comic book shops in late October, Gerads has officially revealed his variant cover for the comic. This cover features a costumed Scott Free as he struggles to avoid being enveloped in a curtain-like darkness. Above him, we can see the now-infamous line, “Darkseid is.”

In his tweet, Gerads exclaims, “Gods Amuck!” alluding to the inspiration for this cover. He then responded to his own tweet, explicitly pointing out that is a direct reference to the ending of the Looney Tunes cartoon “Duck Among,” which, similarly, features Daffy Duck struggling to fend off the dark curtain threatening to overtake the screen and end the show.

Gerads’ variant follows a similar theme as Nick Derington’s main cover, which features Mister Miracle alongside Big Barda as the couple partakes in their proverbial curtain call, waving to the audience as they are showered with roses. That being said, whereas Derington’s cover is rather optimistic, Gerads’ variant has a decidedly more worrisome edge to it (in spite of its comedic origins).

With that in mind, will certainly be interesting to see how this dramatic tale will actually end for Scott and Barda Free.

Written by Tom King and illustrated by Mitch Gerads, Mister Miracle #12 goes on sale Oct. 24.
