In season 2 of Marvel’s Iron Fist, actor James Chen will play the character Sam Chung in four of the season’s ten episodes. Fans of the Marvel comic books will likely recognize Chung as the costumed hero known as Blindspot, Daredevil’s protégé.
As a way to both build anticipation for Iron Fist season 2 and inevitably get the rumor mill churning, current Daredevil writer and Blindspot co-creator Charles Soule tweeted, “A character named Sam Chung, played by James Chen, is appearing in Iron Fist Season 2… Very interesting…” Accompanying this tweet was a photo of Chen next to one of his new comic book counterpart.

Shortly thereafter, Soule posted another tweet that read, “I don’t know anything about his role, whether he is or will be Blindspot, etc., but I mostly hope they keep his background from the comics. We’ll see! Fantastic either way.” In other words, Soule isn’t entirely sure how true to the source Netflix’s Sam Chung will be, but is happy to see one of his characters on-screen regardless.
In the comics, Blindspot is a rather recent addition to the Marvel lineup, having made his debut in December 2015. Sam Chung was born on a Chinese farm before moving to the city and becoming a skilled gymnast.
He eventually found his way to the United States and used every available opportunity to further develop his genius-level intellect until he was able to develop a suit that renders him invisible to the naked guy and take up the mantle of Blindspot. In addition to the advanced suit and Blindspot’s impressive gymnastics background, he then received an exceptional amount of martial arts training after Daredevil took him under his wing.
Once again, it’s unclear whether or not Chung will properly take up the role of Blindspot in Iron Fist season 2, but his inclusion does feel very deliberate. After all, this season will largely revolve around Danny Rand carrying on Daredevil’s legacy as the defender of the New York streets. Additionally, Iron Fist season 2 will also feature Typhoid Mary, another prominent Daredevil-adjacent figure.

With Season 3 of Netflix’s Daredevil just around the corner, Blindspot and Typhoid Mary might just be getting started.
