Next to Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, there are very few Mighty Morphin Power Rangers villains who can come close to Lord Drakkon in terms of villainy and popularity. Now, fans of the character will finally be able to get their hands on a collectible that will be sure to fly off the shelves: a Funko Pop! vinyl figure of the uber-villain.
The Funko Pop! figure of Lord Drakkon was announced this weekend at Power Morphicon, an Anaheim-based convention for fans of the Power Rangers only. The artwork for the figure was unveiled, showcasing the character’s signature helmet, costume and weapon that has made him an instant fan-favorite. Limited to only 30,000 pieces, the Pop! figure will be a Previews exclusive collectible.

Lord Drakkon made his debut in BOOM! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #9 in November 2016. Since then, the character has become the main antagonist of the massive “Shattered Grid” comic book storyline, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Underneath the red-visored Ranger helmet, Drakkon is an alternate version of Tommy Oliver, the fan-favorite Green Ranger who was played by actor Jason David Frank in the original Power Rangers television series. Drakkon hails from a dystopian alternate universe where he is much older, scarred and the cruel tyrant of Angel Grove.
In this parallel reality, Tommy allied himself with Rita, and helped the evil sorceress take over the world. Not only did he defeat the Power Rangers, he took the power of a new, ultimate Ranger created by Zordon for himself. With the Black Dragon zord monster at his command, Lord Drakkon has become one of the most iconic villains in the franchise’s 25-year history.
“We’re excited about this Lord Drakkon Funko POP! and we think fans will be too because he’s such a captivating, yet twisted character,” Erique Watson, Dimaond Previews Brand Manager for Toys said. “Right now, there isn’t much Lord Drakkon merchandise available and this will give fans a chance to get their hands on an exclusive collectible associated with the Power Rangers’ Shattered Grid storyline, one of the biggest comic book events of this summer.”
The Power Rangers license now belongs to toy-giant Hasbro, who plans to mine the franchise to its fullest potential — starting with a sequel to the 2017 live-action movie, Power Rangers. As viewers might recall, Tommy Oliver was teased in the mid-credits scene of that film. Could Lord Drakkon be far behind?
