Kim Possible: Romano & Oswalt Join Live-Action Movie

Fans of the animated series Kim Possible received good news early this year when a feature-length movie version of the series was announced. Now there is more news to be excited about: Patton Oswalt and Christy Carlson Romano have been added to the cast of the upcoming live-action adaptation.

Romano, who was the voice actor behind the animated teen spy during its five-year run, will have a cameo role, while Oswalt has taken the human form of his original character, the super-villain Professor Dementor.

Newcomer Sadie Stanley, 16, will be playing the titular teenager. Other cast announcements previously made public include Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Dr. Ann Possible, Todd Stashwick (12 Monkeys) as Dr. Drakken, Taylor Ortega, Ciara Wilson, Erika Tham, Issac Ryan Brown, and Connie Ray as Nana Possible.

The animated series ran for a total of 82 episodes beginning in 2002, and garnered an Emmy in 2005. The show was a smash hit for the Disney Channel, with popular demand bringing it back from an end in its production in 2005 to run one more season. It remained the highest-rated and most-watched show on the network until its finale in 2007.

Because of its popularity, criticism from a group of fans circulated briefly after the first still photos of the new Kim hit the internet, with some saying the adaptation may not hew closely enough to its source material.

But with original showrunners Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley writing the film’s script, many fans are comfortable knowing that Kim and the gang are in familiar hands.

The upcoming version of Kim Possible will mark new territory for its home network, as the first Disney Channel original movie to be based on the network’s own animated series. The film is expected to be released in 2019.
