A new set being constructed for director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 may shed some light on the origins of the movie’s villainous Cheetah.
Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig landed the role as Barbara Ann Minerva, but fans have been left to wonder how the film’s version of the character will be transformed into Wonder Woman’s feral adversary.

Although production is now under way in England, a new photo shows the Warner Bros. will soon set its sights on the Canary Islands, where an Egyptian village set is under construction on Fuerteventura.

The backdrop is significant because it could link to Minerva’s archaeological exploits from the comics, in which her search for a lost African city ended with her sacrificing another member of the expedition in a ritual that transformed her into an avatar of the cheetah god.

Although the first Wonder Woman 1984 image teased a comic book-accurate version of Barbara, Jenkins could be altering her origins in line with the rest of the DC Extended Universe, and swapping out the African jungles for the desert of Egypt.
Another option ties to speculation that Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal could be playing Doctor Fate, meaning the construction might not be for a Cheetah origin at all.
Directed by Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal, Wonder Woman 1984 is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 1, 2019.
