Impossible 6 Breaks Franchise Record at the Box Office

Mission: Impossible — Fallout reigned supreme at the box office, again.

The critically acclaimed sequel solidified another milestone this weekend as it proved to have the best sophomore showing out of every entry in the series, thus far. According to Box Office Mojo, the Tom Cruise-led action vehicle raked in another $35 million, bringing its domestic haul to a whopping $124.4 million, while its global gross stands at $329.4 million.

The latest outing in the beloved Mission: Impossible series is well on track to surpass its predecessor, Rogue Nation.

Fallout easily crushed its competition, Christopher Robin. The live-action/CGI hybrid Disney flick came in second place this weekend, earning an estimated $25 million over the course of three days — around $10 million below initial projections. The film was reportedly made on a $75 million production budget.

In third place, the comedy film The Spy Who Dumped Me was unable to shake negative reviews from critics, earning a mere $12.3 million its freshman weekend. Rounding out the top five were Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again ($9 million) and The Equalizer 2 ($8.8 million).

Mission Impossible: Fallout stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin, Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett and Vanessa Kirby. The film is out in theatres now.
