The Batman’s First Script Draft is Nearing Completion

Matt Reeves has been hard at work on his upcoming film The Batman. The director spoke about the film at the Television Critics Association press tour, revealing that the script could be finished within a few weeks.

“We are working on getting our draft in the next couple weeks,” said Reeves. “Right now, my head is totally into the script. Right now, I’m going to be leaving here to go back to work on the script.” If Reeves is able to hit his own deadline, then The Batman could potentially go into production next year. “What we’ve talked about is hopefully in the spring or early summer, something like that.”

Reeves also revealed several other key details about the upcoming film, about which relatively little is known. When asked about the possibility of Ben Affleck reprising his role as Batman for the film, the director was a bit more withdrawn. Reeves also claimed the the recent restructuring at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment didn’t hamper his vision for The Batman.

Perhaps the most pertinent bit of information Reeves divulged was in regards to the source material for The Batman. It was previously rumored that the film would draw heavily from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One, but Reeves was adamant that this was not the case. Instead, the director maintained that the story will be an amalgamation of several different Batman tales.
