Fans of David Leitch’s Dedpool 2 can get a look at early concept art for what Josh Brolin’s Cable could have looked like.
As Nathan Summers, aka Cable, Brolin became a major part of the R-rated sequel as he traveled back in time to change a tragic future. Pulling from the Marvel comics, Leitch and the design team aimed for a comics-accurate look for Cable that clearly went through several iterations.

Makeup artist Bill Corso shared the early designs, and revealed some serious Terminator influences that focused more on Cable’s cybernetics in Deadpool 2.
Corso explained how the design was a group effort, with work from concept artist Jerad S.Marantz, costume designers Kurt and Bart, production designer David Scheunemann and Leitch himself. He also reiterated that Cable was always supposed to homage Liefeld’s original look.

Corso also noted the Terminator comparison, and said they nearly opted for a “cool blue” that might’ve had more of a Mr. Freeze vibe. While the diseased look for Cable’s skin is definitely cool, the finished product showcased a subdued version of his cybernetic enhancements and techo-organic affliction.
Corso recently debuted Deadpool 2‘s axed villain Omega Red, so who knows if he has any more behind-the-scenes snippets for fans to look at. With Brolin set to return for Drew Goddard’s X-Force, the stoic Summers could be heading for a whole new look as he once again teams up with the likes of Deadpool and Domino.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, and Julian Dennison as Russell.
