Creepshow, the iconic 1980s horror anthology film series, is coming back, thanks to The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero and AMC’s Shudder service.
Variety reports that Shudder, AMC’s horror-themed subscription video-on-demand service, has greenlit a Creepshow television series to be helmed by Nicotero, special effects supervisor, director and executive producer of The Walking Dead.

“Creepshow is a project very close to my heart!” Nicotero said in a statement. “It is one of those titles that embraces the true spirit of horror … thrills and chills celebrated in one of its truest art forms, the comic book come to life! I’m honored to continue the tradition in the ‘spirit’ in which it was created.”
Directed by George Romero and written by Stephen King, 1982’s Creepshow was an homage to EC and DC horror comics of the 1950s. A sequel, written by Romero and directed by the cinematographer of the first film, followed in 1987, while the much-maligned Creepshow 3 went straight to video in 2006.

The new series is expected to feature entirely new material, with each episode helmed by a different director. Nicotero will direct the first episode, and his special effects company will handle make-up and creature effects throughout.
Shudder’s Creepshow is expected to premiere on the streaming service in 2019.
