A new image from Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has Miles Morales going mano a mano with a gargantuan Green Goblin.
The upcoming animated film boasts a hyperkinetic visual style unlike any animated film before seeking to emulate a comic book coming to life complete with visible sound effects. This stylized approach was present in the production early as evident in newly released concept art from the multiversal epic.
“This power is kind of handed to [Miles] when he’s not really looking for more responsibility,” explained voice actor Shameik Moore in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on how he sees Miles Morales. “That phrase — ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ — it means the same thing, but it comes from a different place with this Spider-Man.”

As first seen the trailer, the Green Goblin has been reimagined as a scaled monster towering over the webslinging superhero. Fortunately, Miles won’t be facing this hulking foe alone joining up with Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in their multiverse spanning adventure. Having said that, teaming up with different wallcrawlers might bring some identity issues for the young Brooklyn-based hero.

“I think that’s what [Miles’s] conflict is — finding his place” continued Moore. “He’s like, ‘If there’s Peter, then how do I be Spider-Man? Can you teach me? How do I do this?’”
Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman from script written by Phil Lord, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on December 14. The animated film stars Shameik Moore, Brian Tyree Henry, Jake Johnson, Mahershala Ali, Hailee Steinfeld, and Liev Schreiber.
