The Fantastic Four has been absent from the Marvel Universe for some time and when they reunite, it sounds like things will be very different for Marvel’s First Family.
Ahead of the new Fantastic Four ongoing series next month, writer Dan Slott has hinted that when Reed Richards and Susan Storm return from their multiversal tour, the team dynamic will change in a big way when the original 1961 Fantastic Four signal from 1961 lights up the New York City skyline once again.

“Something happens within the very first issue that, the minute you see it, you’ll know this is something that will change the fabric of the Fantastic Four,” explained Slott in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Reed Richards, Susan Storm, and their children Franklin and Valeria were last seen in the final issue of Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic’s epic 2016 Marvel crossover Secret Wars. Following the defeat of an omnipotent Doctor Doom on Battleworld, the family set out to repair the multiverse leaving behind teammates Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm on the main Marvel Universe. When the superteam reassembles, the Human Torch and The Thing discover a lot has changed for Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman since they last saw them.

“Their lives haven’t been in amber. They’ve been going forward, exploring and meeting new friends, and finding new enemies,” observed Slott about the adventures of Reed and Sue.
