Transformers: Bumblebee SDCC Panel Announced

For the first time, a Transformers movie will be featured on a panel in Comic-Con International’s prestigious Hall H when Bumblebee arrives in San Diego later this month.

According to Deadline, the decade-old franchise will make its Hall H debut at this year’s SDCC, when Bumblebee takes over the Paramount panel on Friday, July 20 from 5-6 p.m. The panel will feature Bumblebee cast members Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena along with director Travis Knight and is reported to be focused entirely on the Transformers spinoff, as Mission: Impossible – Fallout is sitting this one out.

Set in 1987, Bumblebee finds the titular Transformer on the run and in hiding at a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), almost 18 and still trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary yellow Volkswagen.

The first trailer establishes a tone that sets the movie apart from the previous films in the blockbuster franchise. This time around, the franchises places the emphasis on the relationship between Charlie and the fan-favorite Autobot.

Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) from a script by Christina Hodson, “Bumblebee” stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Pamela Adlon, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. Bumblebee is set for release on December 21.
