Captain Marvel Director Reveals Filming Wraps in Two Weeks

The finish line is within reach as co-director Ryan Fleck has revealed Captain Marvel is nearing its final weeks of production.

In an Instagram post earlier today — in which he unveiled a cast and crew hat for the film — Fleck, who is directing alongside Anna Boden, confirmed that filming officially wrapped in Los Angeles, and the movie would finish production in Louisiana. And while it remains to be seen what footage Marvel Studios intends to film in Louisiana, it is worth noting that New Orleans is the birthplace of Monica Rambeau, who is thought to be played by actress Lashana Lynch in the film.

Lynch is one of the few cast members announced by Marvel not to have her role confirmed. Some reports have suggested she could, in fact, be playing Rambeau — but, perhaps, not the one fans had hoped for, in that she’d be portraying Monica’s mother. Unfortunately, while the actress has been spotted on set alongside star Brie Larson, her character’s costuming has hardly helped to confirm her role. With filming moving to Louisiana, however, that could change as set photos are bound to surface.

Captain Marvel isn’t the first MCU project to film in New Orleans. Cloak & Dagger, currently airing its first season on Freeform, filmed in New Orleans as well.

It’s also of note that, as Marvel prepares to launch its next film, Ant-Man and the Wasp, it’s entirely possible our first official look at Marvel Studios’ first female-led film may not be that far off. Marvel may be opting to skip Comic-Con International in San Diego this year, but that doesn’t mean the studio will be slowing down anytime soon when it comes to marketing. With the first footage having recently been screened at CineEurope, a teaser for Captain Marvel could arrive sooner than we think.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, McKenna Grace and Annette Bening in as-yet-undisclosed roles. The film arrives March 8, 2019.
