Mark Hamill Defends Kelly Marie Tran Against Harassers

On Twitter, Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill defended Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s Kelly Marie Tran and called out those who harassed her online, causing her to delete all of her Instagram posts.

Since the movie’s release, she has been targeted by online bullies who didn’t like the Rian Johnson film or her character Rose Tico. Hamill, however, fired back with some choice words, standing up for someone he has referred to as a “second daughter” in the past. “What’s not to love? #GetALifeNerds,” he wrote, sharing a photo of the duo embracing.

The extent of the harassment has gone as far as some bullies actually making offensive and racist edits to her Wookieepedia page. This also led The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson to voice his displeasure over the harassment earlier today.

In a response to a tweet that defended the harassment of Tran, Johnson made it clear these acts were indefensible and any argument for such behavior was nonsense. “Done with this disingenuous bullshit,” the filmmaker tweeted. “You know the difference between not liking a movie and hatefully harassing a woman so bad she has to get off social media. And you know which of those two we’re talking about here.”

Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available now on streaming platforms, Blu-ray and 4k HD. The film stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo and the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa.
