Phil Noto Draws Taika Waititi As Boba Fett

Comic book artist Phil Noto just put Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi in Boba Fett‘s famous armor. Tom Taylor, who wrote Star Wars: Blood Ties, shared Noto’s rendering of Waititi as Boba Fett on his Twitter.

“Oh, man. I’ve written a fair amount of Boba Fett, and this really does kinda work,” Taylor captioned the photo.

For a character boasting four lines and less than 20 minutes of screen time in the original Star Wars trilogy, Boba Fett captured the hearts of Star Wars fans for years. 35 years after Fett fell into the Sarlacc pit (and may or may not have died, depending on what canon you hold as true), he’s getting his own standalone film from director James Mangold.

In addition to his work on Ragnarok, Waititi’s past credits include What We Do In The Shadows and cult HBO series Flight of the Conchords. Taking on the brooding bounty hunter would certainly be a step outside of his normal repertoire, but — as Taylor notes — there is no denying he has the right look.

Of course, this all depends on where in Boba Fett’s timeline the spinoff film will be set. Fett was played by a young Daniel Logan in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones in 2002 while Temuera Morrison played Jango Fett, the DNA original for all the clones including Boba, so there is some precedent as to what Fett looks like at various ages. Still, with Solo: A Star Wars film getting us slightly more used to the idea of new actors playing old characters, there is room for new interpretations in the extended Star Wars universe.

Now in theaters nationwide, current Star Wars spinoff — director Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story — stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. They’re joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett.
