Emilia Clarke Says Her Final Game of Thrones Scene ‘F*cked Me Up’

As HBO prepares to bring its epic Game of Thrones to a close, star Emilia Clarke admits that filming her final scene left her as an “emotional wreck.”

Although the series won’t return until next year, the curtain is slowly coming down on David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ show as the various actors begin to wrap up their storylines. Speaking with ABC News, the actress revealed what it was like to leave behind the role that propelled her to the A-list.

“It really is the most heartbreaking thing to be filming the last of anything,” Clarke said. “I’ve become an emotional wreck on set. They’re like ‘Emilia…it’s OK’ and I’m like, ‘But it’s the last time!’”

Taking the sentiment a little further, she also told Vanity Fair that her last moments as Daenerys really messed with her mind. Speaking about the end of era, she stated, “It f*cked me up. Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is…”

Aside from leaving behind such an iconic part, there are plenty of in-story reasons could be difficult for Clarke when it comes to playing Daenerys one last time. As well as a blossoming romance with distant relative Jon Snow, Dany also has to deal with the impending army of White Walkers and the malicious Queen Cersei Lannister stacking the odds against her. All of this, combined with rumors of a potential pregnancy for the fiery female, means Clarke may have filmed an action-packed swan song for the Mother of Dragons.

Clarke obviously didn’t drop any spoilers about the final six episodes and couldn’t confirm or deny whether everyone’s favorite Khaleesi will even make it to the final episode alive. The powers that be have teased some major Game of Thrones deaths in the final run of episodes, however, Daenerys is expected to be one of those who survives to the bitter end if George R.R. Martin’s original saga outline from 1993 is to be believed.

Fans will have to wait until 2019 to find out whether Daenerys Targaryen can soar to victory atop her dragons or if she’ll be going down in flames. No official release date has been given.
