Amazon’s The Boys Casts Elisabeth Shue

Amazon’s The Boys series has cast Academy Award Nominee Elisabeth Shue, best known for her roles in the Back to the Future franchise and The Karate Kid, as a series regular.

According to Deadline, Shue is set to play Madelyn Stillwell, the Vice President of Hero Management at Vought-American, who looks after the public images and assignments for the Superhero team, The Seven. Madelyn Stillwell is likely based on the character James Stillwell from the comics, who was the most prominent human antagonist in the series. In The Boys, Stillwell is a high-functioning sociopath and the practical embodiment of Vought, while Shue’s character is described as corporate, formidable and a tough negotiator.

Shue joins a cast featuring Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), Erin Moriarty (Jessica Jones), Laz Alonso (Fast & Furious) and Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence), among others. The series will be helmed by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and long-time collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Amazon’s eight-episode series adaptation is set to debut in early 2019, with principal photography beginning later this year.

Dynamite Entertainment’s The Boys, which ran for 72 issues from 2008 to 2012, depicted a world where superheroes had become amoral celebrities that often engaged in destructive and selfish behavior. The Boys are a CIA squad that keeps those heroes in check, taking them out permanently if need be.
