Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn confirmed he’ll remain consistent when it comes to the title of the third Guardians of the Galaxy film.
After a fan on Twitter suggested the filmmaker call the sequel “Guardians of the Galaxy.mp3,” Gunn responded that “the three films are a set,” and the third installment will indeed be titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
I hear this suggestion a lot, from many different people. But, no, the three films are a set and I’m going to stay consistent with Vol. 3. https://t.co/jLGg625s4I

The titles of Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 come from the mix tapes that Peter Quill’s mother made for him before she passed away from cancer. The “Awesome Mixes” are full of bangers from the 1960s and ’70s, and have become an essential ingredient in the Guardians of the Galaxy recipe.

How we’ll get to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, however, remains a mystery following the events of the blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War. Of course, Vol. 3 won’t be released until well after Avengers 4.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be written and directed by Gunn. It is expected to begin filming in 2019 and be released some time in 2020.
