Infinity War Could Surpass The Dark Knight’s Box Office This Weekend

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is the gift that keeps on giving for Disney.

The film crossed $1 billion worldwide after just eleven days in theaters and this week it crushed pre-sale records in China. But it’s not done yet. Now, Infinity War is set to snag between $52 million and $62 million for its third weekend in theaters, aiming to hit a domestic box office of over $544 million. If that projection rings true, the film’s domestic haul will surpass that of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, according to pro.boxoffice.com.

The Dark Knight‘s potential toppling by Infinity War comes at a strange time. Nolan’s sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins is about to celebrate its 10 year anniversary, having released on July 18, 2008. The film, which stars Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, made $534.8 million during its theatrical run.

Although Nolan’s The Dark Knight didn’t have the inflation of 3D ticket sales on its side in 2008, Infinity War has nevertheless proven it is a force to be reckoned with in short order. Fans will soon discover how strong of a hold Infinity War has at the box office when films like Deadpool 2 release next weekend and Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters the weekend after.
