Deadpool 2 IMAX Poster Breaks Out the Training Wheels

No one taunts, teases and straight-up offends like Wade Wilson, and the marketing for Deadpool 2 has been perfectly aligned with the mouthy mercenary’s core values. Now, IMAX is utilizing these same tactics to convince audiences to see the movie in their large format theaters.

The IMAX Twitter account shared a poster for the film, featuring artwork from digital artist Andy Fairhurst. Along with the IMAX poster, the accompanying message tells audiences to “Kick off the training wheels and get on your big kid bike with IMAX.”

The poster, showing Deadpool hitching a ride on a pink child’s bicycle via a bullet-riddled Taxi cab is certainly a jab that “regular” customers are the “little kids” to IMAX’s “big kids,” but it could also be a dig at Josh Brolin’s 1980s movie background — namely, his role in The Goonies.

A recent Deadpool 2 TV spot included a joke aimed at Brolin’s bad guy Cable when Deadpool refers to him as “One-Eyed Willie,” the name of the pirate whose treasure the Goonies are in search of, and a clear poke at Cable’s one bionic eye. Ryan Reynolds also made fun of Josh Brolin’s Goonies background when wishing him a happy birthday online earlier this year.

Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, and Julian Dennison. Jack Kesy plays a villain widely thought to be Black Tom Cassidy. The film hits theaters on May 18.
