Disney Hasn’t Considered Spider-Man’s Black Suit

Avengers: Infinity War may be introducing us to a fan-favorite Spider-Man costume, which we now know is called the “Iron Spider” suit, but don’t expect any Marvel films to give us another iconic one in the form of the black symbiote suit — at least, not anytime soon.

This was revealed by Tom Holland on the press circuit for Avengers: Infinity War. The actor admitted that Marvel Studios and Disney haven’t started any discussions regarding the alternate costume. Of course, if it happens fans will be hoping it’s not a repeat of the flop that was Spider-Man 3.

“The black suit hasn’t even been a discussion,” Holland said to ScreenRant. “It hasn’t, not in the Disney studio it hasn’t been discussed… Maybe it will be in the future. We don’t know.”

Spidey donned the black suit in 1984, after an alien symbiote bonded with him. It gave him enhanced powers but also made him darker and more aggressive. He eventually rejected the creature, which then bonded with Eddie Brock to create Venom. Of course, once Tom Hardy becomes the character in Sony’s Venom movie, expect even more fans to ask if the symbiote will eventually cross over and meet Holland’s Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rumors have it Holland would be making a cameo in Venom, albeit a very brief one, in a story that sees Brock take on the symbiote but in a much different story than what comic fans are familiar with. While this may eliminate his rivalry with Spidey, fans can at least soak in the web-crawler’s heroics in the MCU when he teams up with Iron Man, Doctor Strange and company, officially as an Avenger, to stop the Mad Titan known as Thanos and his armies.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others. The film opens April 27 worldwide.
