Avengers: Infinity War IMAX Featurette Released

Avengers: Infinity War was filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, and now Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and directors Joe and Anthony Russo would like to tell you why. In a new featurette, the filmmakers revealed how the IMAX format enhances the film.

“We look at all the different aspect ratios, but the pure form and the biggest form with all the information is that IMAX frame,” Feige explained. “There are things happening above and below frame. So, if you’re not seeing it in IMAX, you’re not seeing it… When you have a storyline this big and when you have the promise of a culmination of all these different storylines, we wanted to tell it in the biggest format possible.”

“There’s more information in the frame. There’s more storytelling to look at. You see more of the characters. You see more of their powers. You see more of the scale of the film. It’s just presented on a much grander frame than in a traditional movie theater,” added Joe Russo.

“We have characters in this movie, like Thanos, that are taller than normal human beings are. When you’re framing those kind of characters in the same frame, it can become really challenging with a normal aspect ratio,” Anthony Russo said.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others. The film opens April 27 worldwide.
