Karl Urban is just one of the boys today. Amazon and Sony Pictures TV have announced that Urban will take the lead role in the upcoming television adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys. Urban, who is best known for his roles in the Star Trek and Lord of the Rings film franchises, will play Billy Butcher, the agent in charge of The Boys.
In the comics, Billy Butcher is the ingenious, brutal head of The Boys, a CIA super squad tasked with keeping the world’s corrupt, violent superhero population under control. When a superhero cannot be policed, it is The Boys’ responsibility to take down said hero, which requires a fair amount of planning and sinister forethought.

Urban’s Butcher will play opposite Jack Quaid’s Hughie, a bystander fuming over the death of his girlfriend at the hands of the superhero A-Train. Butcher recruits Billy into his overarching plan to take down the world’s deranged superhero population once and for all.
Developed by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, Amazon’s The Boys stars Karl Urban, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Laz Alonso, Jack Quaid and Karen Fukuhara.
