X-Men: Dark Phoenix, New Mutants Get New Release Dates

The wait has gotten even longer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants. 20th Century Fox announced several new dates for upcoming films late Monday night, moving both Dark Phoenix and New Mutants back several months.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix has moved from its original release date of Nov. 2, 2018 to Feb. 14, 2019, as reported by multiple sources including Deadline. This puts the release of Dark Phoenix in a similar time of year as Fox’s Marvel-based hits Deadpool, released in February 2016, and Logan, released in March 2017.

New Mutants has moved nearly six months, from Feb. 22, 2019 to Aug. 2, 2019. The X-Men spinoff was originally scheduled for release on April 13 of this year, and moved to 2019 in January. It’s been reported that the rescheduling is, in part, to add a new character to the film.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is directed and written by Simon Kinberg, and based on the classic X-Men story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone and written by Boone and Knate Lee, and is positioned as more of a horror movie than a superhero movie, as evidenced by the film’s initial trailer.

Fox’s next Marvel-based film, Deadpool 2, is scheduled for release on May 18.
