The first teaser for Netflix’s upcoming superhero thriller-meets-coming of age story, Impulse, is surprisingly dark despite its fantastical premise. The series is slated to release on YouTube Red in the summer and follows the struggles of a 16-year-old girl who discovers she has the power to teleport instantaneously.
Impulse is an adaptation of the novel by the same name written by Steven Gould. The novel is the third in the Jumper series — a name that might ring some bells, as the first book, Jumper, was adapted into a movie starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson back in 2008. The book series centers around a family of Jumpers, people who can teleport, who are hunted by various fanatical groups due to their innate powers.

The show will follow Henrietta “Henry” Coles, a rebellious teenager who discovers she has the ability to teleport when a boy from her high school attempts to assault her. Debuting on YouTube Red in the summer, Impulse stars Maddie Hasson as Henrietta “Henry” Coles, Missi Pyle as Cleo Coles, Sarah Desjardins as Jenna Hope, Enuka Okuma as Deputy Anne Hulce and Craig Arnold as Lucas Boone.
