Acclaimed anime OVA FLCL, which is to return in 2018 with two new movies, has released a new visual by character designer Sadamoto Yoshiyuki.
FLCL 2 and FLCL 3 will continue from the original OVA as part of a new project by Gainax, renowned for producing Neon Genesis Evangelion. Tsurumaki Kazuya, who worked on Gainax 20th anniversary projects Aim for the Top2! DIEBUSTER and the Rebuild of Evangelion movies will make his directorial debut with FLCL 2 while Psycho-Pass’ Motohiro Katsuyuki will serve as animation director.
The illustration released with the announcement features a dystopic washed out colour scheme along with four characters from the upcoming movies including FLCL heroine Haruhara Haruko.
Advance tickets for the FLCL 2 movie will be available for purchase at AnimeJapan 2018 on Mar. 24 and 25. Clear files featuring Sadamoto’s illustration and guitar pick keychains will also be on sale as part of a special FLCL merchandise bundle retailing for 4000 yen (including tax). These limited edition items will also be available from TOHO’s animation store from March 30.
FLCL 2 and FLCL 3 are slated to premiere at cinemas across Japan in 2018.
