Black Panther’s Dora Milaje to Star in Marvel Comic Wakanda Forever


Director Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster Black Panther is jam-packed with breakout characters, not the least of which are Denai Gurira’s Okoye and Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, members of Wakanda’s elite royal guard. So it’s perhaps no surprise that Marvel Comics is giving them their own miniseries Wakanda Forever: The Amazing Spider-Man.

Written by Nnedi Okorafor and illustrated by Alberto Jiménez Alburquerque, the three-issue story will send three members of the Dora Milaje — Okoye, Ayo and Aneka — to New York City to investigate a threat to Wakandan national security, where they cross paths with Spider-Man, at the title suggests.

“Typically when you see them, they’re with T’Challa, representing and protecting him,” Okorafor told Vogue. “Now you’re going to see the Dora Miljae for the first time as an independent entity; they’re not under the shadow of the throne.”

A Hugo and Nebula award-winning author, Okorafor previously took readers to Wakanda in Marvel’s Black Panther: Long Live the King, which debuted last year as a digital-first series.
