Frank Miller and John Romita Jr. are bringing Superman: Year One to comic book store shelves this August.
Announced as the launch title for DC’s new Black Label imprint, the three-part series will see the comics veterans take on the early days of the the big blue boy scout. It’s a framework Frank Miller should be familiar with after penning on Batman: Year One back in 1987.

Here’s the official synopsis for Superman: Year One:
“A groundbreaking, definitive treatment of Superman’s classic origin story in honor of his 80th anniversary. This story details new revelations that reframe the Man of Steel’s most famous milestones — from Kal-El’s frantic exile from Krypton, to Clark Kent’s childhood in Kansas, to his inevitable rise to become the most powerful and inspiring superhero of all time.”
The Black Label line of comics will take inspiration from legacy DC Comics titles like The Dark Knight Returns, DC: The New Frontier and Watchmen.

“DC Black Label offers leading writers and artists of any industry the opportunity to tell their definitive DC stories without being confined to canon,” Executive Editor of Vertigo Mark Doyle said in a press release. Doyle will oversee Black Label as well.
The books will sport a distinctive Black Label logo, formatting and a tailored release schedule. Superman: Year One will kick off the new imprint this August.
