In the fictional world of superheroes, death is rarely final, to the consternation of some fans, who complain that realization diminishes the stakes. But while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige insists that the ending for some characters’ stories in Avengers: Infinity War doesn’t necessarily mean those heroes will die, he also delivers a warning.
Asked by Entertainment Weekly whether the losses in the ensemble film will be “for real,” this time, he replied, “Yes. I mean, I could always list off the characters that we’ve killed in our movies that haven’t come back, but the big ones, which I know they’re looking at …?” After a pause, he added, “I would just say, yes. People need to be careful what they wish for.”

It this were television, Feige’s last remark might be followed by a dramatic dun dun duuuuun, but it’s not, so we’re forced to provide our own. That syncs up with Robert Downey Jr.’s own recent comments about Infinity War, which he characterized as “a heads-will-roll scenario.”
That said, while he reiterated that the film will bring to a close the stories some beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe, Feige used another popular franchise to illustrate that an ending doesn’t have to mean death.

“People always will jump to that,” he said. “That’s not necessarily what we’re talking about. I talk a lot, because I’m a big-ass nerd, about Star Trek: The Next Generation, ‘All Good Things.’ That to me is one of the best series finales ever. That wasn’t about death. Picard went and played poker with the crew, something he should have done a long time ago, right?”
