Walking Dead Midseason Premiere Clip Reveals Saviors’ Escape Plan

A new clip from next Sunday’s midseason premiere of The Walking Dead has revealed how the Saviors managed to escape the Sanctuary before heading off to attack Alexandria and scupper Rick Grimes’ plans to stop the threat of Negan once and for all.

The clip sees Morgan, as a sniper, monitoring the Sanctuary which was surrounded down by walkers, all as part of an alliance move by Alexandria, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom. However, the Saviors would break free with automatic weapons, firing on the zombies and easily escaping — all thanks to bullets manufactured by the traitorous Eugene.

We see Morgan eventually warning his allies to retreat before running for cover himself. Fans were wondering earlier in Season 8 just how this happened as Rick himself came across the melee in Episode 7, after he recruited Jadis and the Scavengers to his team. He thought he had a fool-proof plan but as seen here, it just wasn’t to be.

The consequence of this great escape was then felt in Episode 8, the midseason finale, where the Saviors laid waste to Alexandria, which eventually resulted in Carl getting bitten and placed on a path to death.

The Walking Dead returns February 25 at 9 p.m. on AMC. The show stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, Lennie James as Morgan Jones, Alanna Masterson as Tara Chambler, Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan.
