Hello Kitty to Star in Kawaii Kabuki Show!

Sanrio character theme park Puroland is embarking on a brand new cultural adventure with “Kawaii Kabuki”!

Hello Kitty and friends will be taking to the stage in a collaboration with Shochiku to create a new kabuki-style musical experience, which is set to begin performances at Sanrio Puroland’s Marchen Theater from March 10. The show is the first kabuki musical to be performed at the venue, which will also be making use of projection mapping for the very first time.

This new venture showcases the talents of several prominent figures in the world of kabuki. The show is written and directed by Shochiku’s Yokouchi Kensuke, and will feature kabuki actors Nakamura Shidou (voice) and Bando Minosuke II (video).

The performance, which is inspired by classic Japanese fairytale Momotarou, has been adapted as a musical so that overseas visitors as well as Japanese guests will be able to enjoy the show.

Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, and Dear Daniel will play righteous samurai battling evil demon Badtz-Maru while Hello Kitty leads the show as Momotarou. The show will also mark the first appearance of a new Puroland kabuki mascot, Kabuki Nyantarou.

“Kawaii Kabuki – Hello Kitty-za no Momotaro” runs from Mar. 10 at Sanrio Puroland’s Marchen Theater.
