Black Panther Promo Points Out MCU Wakanda References

Black Panther‘s arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a long time coming, at least according to the latest promo for the upcoming film. The new video flashes back to some of the MCU’s earliest films, which paved the road to Wakanda starting in 2010.

Black Panther himself Chadwick Boseman narrates the promo, pointing out references in Iron Man 2, Captain America, Avengers: Age of Ultron and — of course — Captain America: Civil War. “My character comes from a place called Wakanda. While that name may not be familiar, it’s actually connected to the Avengers universe in ways you never knew,” he explains. “In fact, it might be the most talked about out of any other Marvel movie.”

With accompanying clips, Boseman points out a map with a Wakanda Easter egg in Iron Man 2; the introduction of Vibranium in Captain America; the first mention of Wakanda from Bruce “Hulk” Banner in Avengers: Age of Ultron; and his own MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War.

“I’ve been around, and now I’m not going anywhere,” he concludes.

Directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he wrote with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Winston Duke as M’Baku and Forest Whitaker as Zuri. The film opens Feb. 16.
