Moon took to Instagram to describe the first table reading with the cast for the series premiere, accompanied by an illustration he did depicting the session.

He wrote: “One of the most incredible moments of our time in Toronto was sitting through the table reading of the first episode with the entire cast. Seeing all the actors there, together, and hearing the entire script out loud, was amazing. Right there we started to see how much the actors were going to bring to these characters, and how exciting it was to see this story coming to life beyond the pages of the comics. #umbrellaacademy #wondertwinsumbrellaadventure #netflix #ucp #darkhorse.”

The live-action series, based on the Eisner award-winning tale written by Gerard Way, will follow a dysfunctional family of superheroes called the Umbrella Academy as they solve their father Reginald Hargreeves’ mysterious death, while coming apart at the seams because of their wildly different personalities and superhuman powers.

Moon’s illustration teases what’s to come as it showcases Grace (the kids’ mother) as well as Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five (an old genius trapped in a young boy’s body); David Castañeda’s Diego (a skilled vigilante); Emmy Raver-Lampman’s Allison (a beauty with the power of suggestion); Ellen Page’s Vanya (the only sibling with seemingly no superpowers); Tom Hopper’s Luther (the leader with super-strength); and Robert Sheehan’s Klaus (a drug-addicted wildcard).

Debuting in 2018, The Umbrella Academy is a production of Netflix adapted by Jeremy Slater.
