James Gunn Promises Yondu Won’t Return from the Dead

With fans embracing the majority of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s colorful characters, it’s no surprise that fans often find themselves sad to see them go. Yondu’s death in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 was one of the most recent, and most difficult, farewells for fans to accept, so it’s perhaps no surprise that director James Gunn has decided to address whether actor Michael Rooker’s red-finned Ravager’s death will be overturned.

Alas, Gunn responded by saying, “as long I’m around,” Yondu is going to stay dead.

Digging a little deeper into why Yondu won’t come back from the grave, Gunn said it was his belief that the former bad guy’s sacrifice “needs to mean something.” Considering how the film ended, that entire scene would be inconsequential if Yondu were to just rise out of the grave for the next film. Of course, it also makes us wonder why, then, Rooker was teasing a possible role in the upcoming Avengers sequels last February.
