Runaways Will Return for Season 2

Ahead of the Season 1 finale, Marvel’s Runaways has officially been renewed for a second season. The show, which adapts Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona’s popular comic of the same name, will return for Season 2.

“We’re thrilled about Runaways Season 2. Our partnership with Josh [Schwartz] and Stephanie [Savage] and Hulu has been as exciting as the reaction to the show from our fans — both new and old!” Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb told Marvel.com.

“We’re so privileged that Marvel and Brian K. Vaughan trusted us with Runaways,” added executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. “We couldn’t be more excited to continue telling this story. It’s been a blast making the show with the cast and crew. We can’t wait to see where we can take the story in Season 2 and to stay on the run.”

“The conversations with the fans have been gratifying. We hear and see you. We appreciate your passion and hearing how much the show means to you. Beware the possibility of a dinosaur on the streets of Los Angeles…and earthquakes!” they concluded.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Runaways Season 2 will run for 13 episodes. Since Season 1 had ten episodes, Season 2 will be extended by an additional three episodes.

Just a week ago, reports claimed the show had been renewed, though neither Marvel nor Hulu made any official announcements at that time. This announcement confirms these earlier reports.

Runaways follows a group of teenagers who discover their parents are collectively the sinister organization known as the Pride, a supervillain group that meets in secret every year to conduct a sacrifice. When the teens witness the sacrifice being performed, they know they have to step up and take down their parents.

This evening’s Season 1 finale will find the Runaways facing off against their parents, who have at last discovered that their children know the truth about their murderous ways. The penultimate episode concluded with a standoff between the two groups, just as the mysterious Jonah arrived. The upcoming finale promises to answer some questions asked by the first nine episodes, such as Jonah’s goal and what power lies beneath LA’s streets.

Now streaming on Hulu, Marvel’s Runaways stars Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, Allegra Acosta, Ryan Sands, Angel Parker, Brittany Ishibashi, James Yaegashi, Kevin Weisman, Brigid Brannagh, Annie Wersching, Kip Pardue, James Marsters and Ever Carradine. The finale for Season 1 will air on January 9.
