Clark Gregg Teases ‘Bloody’ AoS Directorial Debut

Phil Coulson actor Clark Gregg has stepped behind the camera for this Friday’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which sees Gregg play the role of director in what promises to be a “bloody” episode.

Gregg has been playing the character Phil Coulson since 2008’s Iron Man, but the upcoming “Fun and Games” marks the first S.H.I.E.L.D episode he has helmed over the course of the show’s five seasons. The sixth episode of the show’s current fifth season will see Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson fight for her life as she’s forced to showcase her abilities. Meanwhile, an “unexpected friend” will seek to rescue her. There are set to be plenty of fights throughout the episode, and Gregg seems excited to (finally) get to share it with fans tomorrow.

“It’s a bloody episode, with a bunch of people saying goodbye,” Gregg teased in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview. “I read it and I was squealing. ‘This is going to be fun!’ and it was.”

According to Gregg, he had been approached multiple times about directing an episode. However, he originally felt the task would be daunting. Things have since changed since then, and he eventually came around to the idea for the show’s fifth season. While best known for his work as Coulson, Gregg actually has an expansive resume that includes writing and directing credits for 2008’s Choke, an adaption of the 2001 novel by Chuck Palahniuk, as well as the movie Trust Me back in 2013.

While unable to share many details surrounding his S.H.I.E.L.D. episode, Gregg did tease that we’ll finally get to see Flint (Coy Stewart) shine, as he’s set to get his powers in “Fun & Games.”
