Wonder Woman 2 Will Be Totally Different Film

At the Palm Springs Film Festival, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins talked about the highly anticipated sequel and teased a “totally different” film, along with a possible appearance by Wonder Woman television star Lynda Carter.

Although Wonder Woman proved to be a massive success both critically and financially, director Patty Jenkins has stated that the sequel will be much different. Having previously teased a new romance and new characters for the follow-up, Jenkins recently told ET Canada that Wonder Woman 2 will be a “totally different” film from its predecessor.

“We’re actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it’s its own movie completely, so it’s not ‘two’ to us,” she explained. “It’s an entirely new adventure together that we couldn’t be luckier [to do].”

Filming on Wonder Woman 2 is expected to kick off later this year for a 2019 release. As it stands, not much is known regarding the sequel. Still, while news is sparse at the moment, Jenkins has opted to comment on the possibility of Lynda Carter (finally) joining Gadot on screen in the sequel. In fact, Jenkins has insisted that they’ve been trying, but there’s currently no guarantee that she’ll appear in the sequel.

“Lynda is one of the dearest people to us, has been a great mentor and dear friend. And we actually desperately tried to get her in the first one and we had the scheduling that couldn’t work, so she’s always been a part of our Wonder Woman family,” she shared. “We won’t say anything yet, but we certainly — there’s no lack of trying.”

Not only was Carter on hand at the premiere for Wonder Woman last year to support Jenkins and star Gal Gadot, she also came to the film’s defense after Titanic director James Cameron criticized the film. Despite scheduling conflicts making it difficult for Carter to appear alongside Gadot on the big screen, the actress has dipped her toes back into the DC universe as President Olivia Marsdin on The CW’s Supergirl.

Wonder Woman 2 arrives in theaters on November 1, 2019 and stars Gal Gadot.
