Batman Won’t Appear On CW’s Arrowverse Shows

The Arrowverse is already home to dozens of superheroes, but fans shouldn’t expect the CW dramas to add Batman to their ranks.

Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen confirmed earlier this season that Bruce Wayne exists in the Arrowverse when he name-dropped the billionaire during a press conference. But Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim insists it was a playful nod and nothing more.

“No, I love a good Easter egg,” he told ComicBook.com, “and I love doing the occasional name drop. You know, we name-dropped Hal Jordan at the beginning of Season 3, but it’s really just fun for us. I think in the Arrowverse we have our own Justice League, and the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman … these are all characters that are either spoken for on the movie side and/or other shows. There’s a Bruce Wayne on Gotham.”

In the Arrow episode “Tribute,” Oliver mentioned Bruce Wayne in an effort to misdirect the news media after a photo seemed to confirm the mayor’s secret identity as Green Arrow. “Photos can be doctored. They could have put Bruce Wayne’s head on that body,” he said. “Has Bruce Wayne left Gotham to hang out in Star City recently? No.”

Guggenheim’s comments follow confirmation last week that Deathstroke is once again off-limits to the Arrowverse, presumably because Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are developing a solo film starring the mercenary.

Airing Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on The CW, Arrow is a production of Bonanza Productions starring Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Colin Donnell, David Ramsey, Willa Holland, Susanna Thompson, Paul Blackthorne, Emily Bett Rickards, Colton Haynes, Manu Bennett, John Barrowman, Echo Kellum and Josh Segarra.
