According to The Wrap, the latest entry in the Star Wars saga, The Last Jedi, has raked in a whopping $220 million at the domestic box office for its opening weekend. This makes the movie the second-highest opening weekend of all-time, standing only behind the 2015 record-shattering release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi started its incredibly strong run with a Thursday night preview that managed to earn $45 million, contributing to a Friday haul of $104.8 million. With a Saturday total of $63.7 million and a Sunday that is projected to earn $52 million, Episode VIII has climbed up the charts to earn Disney and Lucasfilm the top two spots of opening weekend records.

With strong reviews but an audience reception that is decidedly mixed, it remains to be seen if these numbers will go down by next weekend, or if The Last Jedi will be able to end its theatrical run with a total number that will be able to match, or at least closely follow, that of J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens.
