Avengers director Joss Whedon will helm the upcoming Batgirl solo film, but the question of who will play the titular hero remains unanswered. While it’s likely still awhile before Warner Bros. will make an official casting announcement, Pitch Perfect star Hailee Steinfeld wants to join the Bat Family as Batgirl.

Steinfeld expressed interest in playing a superhero during an interview with MTV International. However, she was indecisive about who she would like to play until the interviewer suggested Batgirl. “Not going to lie,” Steinfeld responded, “that’s kind of what I was thinking, but I didn’t know what to say. I would love that.”
The video also features Steinfeld’s Pitch Perfect 3 co-star Rebel Wilson talking about her desire to star in a superhero movie. Although she does mention Valiant’s Faith, she doesn’t discuss in much depth who she would like to play.
Steinfeld may or may not end up getting to play the character. In April, Whedon expressed interest in casting an unknown actor as Batgirl, and Steinfeld certainly isn’t an unknown. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Mattie Ross in 2010’s True Grit and will star as Charlie Watson in upcoming Transformers spin-off Bumblebee: The Movie.

Little is known about Whedon’s Batgirl film. A previous report pegged Batgirl as one of the next DCEU films to enter production, alongside Shazam and Justice League Dark, but that is not confirmed at this time.
