SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for “A Life Earned,” the latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
A beloved character has returned to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In “A Life Earned,” the latest episode, Leo Fitz showed up just as Kasius brought Daisy out to be auctioned off as an intergalactic gladiator. However, he didn’t give her the warm welcome she may have expected.
As the episode drew to a close, Kasius welcomed a group of potential buyers to the Lighthouse. “It is truly my pleasure to invite you to this wondrous place, the last bastion of a species, a place I’ve been proud to call home for so long,” he announced as Daisy was brought out in chains, led by two Kree guards. “You are the first to arrive for an exhibition of unbridled powers to excite the senses, all leading up to our main event: one powerful Inhuman, long thought gone, now here to enrich one lucky patron’s life — Quake, Destroyer of Worlds.”

“Someone — maybe someone in this room right now — will win this prize,” he added. “Her power will be your power. So are there any requests as we begin?”
A man in a mask stepped out from behind the others when Kasius made his offer. “Forget your exhibition. She’s the Destroyer of Worlds,” the man said in a thick Scottish accent. He then removed his mask, revealing Fitz underneath. “She should fight to the death,” he concluded, and the scene cut to black.

This is Fitz’s first appearance in Season 5. Per the premiere, Fitz “wasn’t on the list” and thus wasn’t sent into the future like his teammates Coulson, Daisy, May, Mack, Yo-Yo and Simmons. However, he has been there in spirit, since the team came into possession of an aged postcard with a message from him: “Working on it.”
Seeing as Fitz seemed to be “working on” a way to save his friends, his final words in “A Life Earned” are nothing short of shocking. What’s more, it’s unclear how he turned up on the Lighthouse in the first place, as he was not sent through the monolith with the others. Nevertheless, his appearance may spell trouble for Daisy — unless, of course, he’s got a plan that has yet to be revealed to viewers.
Airing Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Ian De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Elizabeth Henstridge, Nick Blood, Jeff Ward, Eve Harlow, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Coy Stewart.
