Just weeks after DC’s live-action Titans series debuted its first image (star Brenton Thwaites as Robin), Warner Bros. Television has released a second photo of its cast. This time, we meet Hawk and Dove, as portrayed by Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly.

Both characters appear to have made the leap from comics to live action while successfully maintaining their DC Comics look. Hawk’s outfit is unmistakably based on creator Steve Ditko’s original design, and Dove’s costume is a picture-perfect replica of the look Rob Liefeld introduced in the ’80s.
The level of detail in the costumes — designed by Laura Jean Shannon — goes beyond simply recreating their comic book look. Hawk has gouges and cracks all over his uniform, which makes sense since he traditionally plays the role of the hot-headed bruiser. Dove’s costume, on the other hand, looks as though it’s never seen battle. This could either be because she’s new to the superhero game when Titans debuts (in the comics, Dawn replaced Hanks’ brother Don after his death), or it may be reflective of her character’s preference to diffuse fights without resorting to violence.
The heroes, known in their civilian identities as Hank Hall and Dawn Granger, will be recurring characters in Titans‘ first season, with the possibility that the two may become regulars in Season 2. A Hawk and Dove spin-off is also being considered by Warner Bros., depending on how viewers react to the pair.

Titans, based on the various incarnations of DC Comics’ beloved Teen Titans teams, is scheduled to debut in 2018 on DC’s as-yet unnamed upcoming direct-to-consumer digital service. Here’s the official synopsis of the series: “Titans is an all-new live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. Titans is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.”
The Titans series was first announced as in development in 2014, at the time targeted for TNT. Earlier this year, news broke that it had moved to DC’s digital service, along with Young Justice: Outsiders, the third season of the fan-favorite animated series, which is making its return after ending in 2013. Last month, a Harley Quinn animated series was announced for the service.
Titans is executive produced by genre veterans Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Back in April, Johns — DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer, and a writer of a memorable run on the Teen Titans comic book series — revealed on Twitter that he was writing for the series.
