Suicide Squad 2 to Begin Filming in Fall 2018

Despite the somewhat-uncertain future of the DC Extended Universe following the performance of Justice League, Warner Bros. plans to forge ahead ahead with several superhero films, including the sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad. While the film was previously on the fast track, it now appears if production may be delayed to accommodate Will Smith’s schedule.

Omega Underground reports Suicide Squad 2‘s production start date has been pushed to October 2018, a little more than six months later than its original March window. That will free up Smith, who stars as Deadshot, to complete production on Ang Lee’s sci-fi action film Gemini Man, expected to wrap in July.

Directed by Gavin O’Connor, Suicide Squad 2 marks the third DCEU feature to begin filming in 2018. Shazam! kicks off principal photography on Feb. 5, and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman sequel aims to go in front of the cameras next summer.

Smith is expected to be joined in the sequel by Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, among others. It’s also been rumored that Dwayne Johnson will debut as Black Adam in the film.

No release date has been announced, but sometime in 2019 seems likely.
