Morrison Wanted To Write Dick & Damian for 5 Years

In a recent AMA thread on Reddit, Grant Morrison mentioned his former plans for the team of Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne during his run on Batman and Robin.

A user under the name TheDemon3trigan asked Morrison about the writer’s previous comments regarding the end of Dick Grayson’s run as Batman, and whether he had other stories to tell before DC Comics ultimately pulled the plug.

Morrison responded that he “had no specific story in mind but I would have happily kept them together as Batman and Robin for five years.” As for Bruce Wayne? He would have brought him back “at the exact moment everyone had finally given up on his return.”

Following Morrison’s work on “Batman R.I.P.” and Final Crisis, Bruce Wayne had seemingly died. This led to the new title Batman and Robin in 2009, with Dick Grayson filling in as Batman and Damian serving as his Robin.

If Morrison’s five-year plan had been followed, it would have meant Bruce would have returned sometime in 2013. Things ended up working out differently, though, with The Return of Bruce Wayne seeing publication in 2010, and Morrison’s run on Batman and Robin ending with issue #16.

It seems that he got to tell the story he had in mind, but the original plan was to allow for it to be told over a longer period of time with more adventures on the way. It sounds exactly like what Marvel did with Wolverine just a few years later.
