Daisy Ridley Done With Star Wars After Episode IX

Disney and Lucasfilm have no plans to end the Star Wars franchise anytime soon, with plans for a new trilogy from Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and a live-action TV series in the works, but it appears the studio will have to move forward without star Daisy Ridley. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said she is done playing Rey after the as-yet-untitled Star Wars: Episode IX.

Ridley revealed that she doesn’t want to continue playing the character past the end of the current trilogy. “No,” she said. “For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to. I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, ‘Awesome.’ Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now.”

Pressed further, Ridley explained that she originally signed on for three films and that she feels that it will be the right time to move on from the character after Episode IX. “No,” she said. “No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.”

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15 and stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Benicio Del Toro as ‘DJ’, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, and the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa.
