Fans were disappointed that one of the founders of DC Comics’ premier team was missing when Justice League was announced: the Green Lantern of Earth, Hal Jordan. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash all appeared, with Cyborg replacing Martian Manhunter. However, despite a couple fleeting Green Lantern cameos in the film, reports recently emerged that a few more prominent Lanterns were initially slated to appear.

An anonymous VFX artist, who worked on Zack Snyder’s film, revealed on Reddit that after defeating Steppenwolf, Bruce Wayne was to be visited by Kilowog and Tomar-Re, two senior members of the Green Lantern Corps from the books, in a post-credits scene at his lake house to expand the cosmic scope of the DCEU. This was scrapped and eventually replaced with Deathstroke and Lex Luthor’s apparent plans for an Injustice League.
In the movie, two obscure Lanterns appeared early on in a flashback scene, in a coalition of Amazons, Atlanteans, Greek gods and humans, fighting off Steppenwolf’s first invasion of Earth. One actually died, with its ring then flying off, as per Lantern protocol, to find a new wielder whom the audience never manages to see.

DC fans were holding out hope that an Earth-affiliated Lantern (whether it be Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart or Guy Gardner) was being kept as a surprise seventh member by Snyder, especially following Warner Bros.’ “Unite The Seven” marketing slogan, and Steppenwolf’s “No Lanterns” line in the final trailer released by the studio. Sadly, the Lanterns’ presence was relegated to these minor cameos, leaving us guessing just when and where the rest of the Corps will appear in the DCEU.
In theaters now, Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
