Mystery Science Theater 3000 Renewed at Netflix

Fret not, MSTies, because the Satellite of Love isn’t going anywhere. After several months of radio silence, Netflix has officially renewed Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return for a second season.

The news dropped during a Thanksgiving marathon that saw six classic MST3K episodes air with new introductions by series creator Joel Hodgson and MST3K: The Return stars Felicia Day and Jonah Ray.

Netflix acquired the beloved series back in June of 2016 and dropped a 14-episode season on April 14th that brought back the original series’ Crow and Tom Servo with new host Jonah Ray, who was hand-picked to helm the relaunch by Hodgson. The Kickstarter darling has been warmly-received by both fans and critics, sporting a 8.3/10 score on IMDb and a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but fans had been growing increasingly anxious that the series had become the latest in a slew of Netflix originals — like Marco Polo, Sense8 and Hemlock Grove — to receive the axe.

No exact date was given as to when streamers can expect more classic movie digs and debauchery from Jonah and his robot friends, but Netflix did add that the series will return in the “not-too-distant future,” alluding to the series’ earworm of a theme song.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return stars Felicia Day as Kings Forrester, Jonah Ray as Jonah Heston, Patton Oswalt as Max (TV’s Son of TV’s Frank), with Crow and Tom Servo voiced by Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn respectively.
