SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “Wake Up,” the latest episode of Supergirl.
Reign has officially arrived on Supergirl. Though Samantha, the woman who was destined to become the Worldkiller, has had a role on the show since the Season 3 premiere, her alter ego Reign hasn’t surfaced — until now. In “Wake Up,” the latest episode, Samantha made her involuntary transformation into the Kryptonian weapon.
Last week, Samantha discovered that she had been shot during Lena Luthor’s press conference. However, the bullet had simply crumpled against her skin. To test her discovery, she later put her hand into a boiling pot of water, only to pull it out unharmed. Confused and a little frightened, she went to see her adoptive mother Patricia.

When Samantha arrived at her house, Patricia revealed the spaceship that had brought Samantha to Earth. Patricia explained that she had planned to reveal Samantha’s origins when she turned eighteen, but the two had a falling out when Samantha became pregnant as a teenager. As such, Patricia never revealed the truth, allowing Samantha to live a “normal” life.
Samantha approached the ship as Patricia explained this and touched it. When she came in contact with it, the ship activated and revealed a hidden crystal. She took this crystal and drove into the desert with it, throwing it into the distance. As soon as the crystal struck the ground, a Kryptonian fortress emerged: the Fortress of Sanctuary.
Inside, Samantha discovered a structure made of earth and rock, which looked similar to the House of El’s Fortress of Solitude. She was greeted by a holographic projection of the woman she had seen in her dreams, who explained that she was sent to Earth for a great purpose. However, according to the hologram, the birth of Samantha’s daughter Ruby had delayed her manifestation.

When Samantha asked if she was to become a hero like Supergirl, the hologram had other ideas in mind. According to the hologram, Samantha was destined to raze the World of Man and become the Worldkiller, something much more powerful than other Kryptonians. The hologram then informed her that she would be purged of all her human emotions and memories. Samantha was horrified at the idea and refused, only for the Fortress of Sanctuary to make matters into its own hands.
The Fortress of Sanctuary promptly removed any humanity Samantha ever had. After the process, her eyes glowed red and she prepared to take her orders from the hologram.
