Don’t expect the Martian Manhunter to show up at Barry and Iris’ wedding during this year’s Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Earth-X.” During a set visit, Supergirl star David Harewood — who plays J’onn J’onzz — revealed that he is not involved this year.
“I didn’t, no, which is a shame,” he shared. “But you know there’ll be no J’onn J’onzz in the crossovers, and people get very upset about that. It’s how it is.”
Though Harewood didn’t offer many more details than that, the four-show crossover will likely explain away his absence by leaning on his responsibilities as DEO Director on Supergirl‘s Earth. The character may have been sidelined due to the nature of his abilities, which require a hefty dose of digital effects.

J’onn won’t be the only one taking a back seat for “Crisis on Earth-X.” Asked if her character Lena Luthor will appear, Katie McGrath said, “No. Because, think about it, it would be slightly difficult since I don’t know that Kara is Supergirl and she’s crossing over to all the other superhero shows — I’m not quite sure how they would have made that one work. For that reason it’s great as a viewer because I just get to watch all of that and not critique what I’m doing with my hands or how I flip my hair.”
This year’s four-part crossover will air across two nights, beginning Monday, November 27, with Supergirl and Arrow (on a special night for one week only), and concluding Tuesday, November 28, with The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
