Legion Will Be ‘Massive Part’ of Supergirl Season 3

It’s official: the Legion of Super-Heroes is headed to Supergirl. With the return of Mon-El and the introduction of Saturn Girl and Braniac-5, the Girl of Steel will have a new set of problems on her hands. During a set visit, Supergirl stars Katie McGrath (Lena Luthor) and Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers) addressed what that means for their characters and how the new team will disrupt their status quo.

Asked if she will be involved with the Legion storyline, McGrath said, “It’s such a massive part of Season 3, I would imagine that yes, she will be. We’ve only just gotten the scripts where they come in so we don’t quite know how they’re going to interact with all of the characters because they’ve only just arrived. But I can’t imagine that it’s not going to have an effect on her. For a start, Kara is her best friend and the love of Kara’s life has just come back. So that is going to impact on everyone, I think.”

Leigh, who plays Kara’s sister Alex, also weighed in on how her character will react to the Legion. “There’s a skepticism, you know what I mean? After all that time, you can kind of really figure out and understand what happened with Mon-El and the time that’s passed and sort of what that looks like. It’s not an easy pill to swallow no matter what, and for Alex, Alex is always going to be protective, again, of her sister. They’re trying to really wrap their minds around what that looks like.”

“With the Legion coming in, it’s sort of like you never have a down moment or a dull moment. It’s like you gotta deal with these things, and everything comes in, and it all just falls down at once. There’s not a lot of time for dwelling,” she continued. “But at the same time, she’s now constantly reminded of what happened, of that loss, that heartbreak. So it’s literally one of those things where Alex, in a sense, can kind of, at least momentarily put it to the side because she’s not seeing her every moment. It’s like, you know, you break up with someone that you work with, you’re constantly like, ‘Ugggh, walk past the office.’ She’s, no matter what, kind of going to be confronted with it, and it really makes her kind of dig deep and figure out, ‘OK, how do we do this moving forward, and either work side by side, or kind of figure some stuff out to either work our way around it?’”

Airing Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
